GAP Year Programmes @ Mutunyi School

We strongly believe that giving time is as beneficial as giving money.

A great way to give time is on a GAP year.

Volunteers for CSMF will have the opportunity to make a real difference by visiting Mutunyi and working at the school, living with the people and helping them improve their resources.

Here's what a CSMF trip might involve.

Daily activities:

Teaching five days a week at Mutunyi any subjects you wish, from English and Maths, Drama, Music and Art. This is an unique opportunity, as from day one you will be given a class of students to teach, who are intensely hard working and very keen to learn.

Get involved with ongoing CSMF projects, such as the Library Project and Water Conservation Schemes.

Act as a role model to inspire the students to learn and achieve.

Play and coach games such as football in the afternoons.

Accommodation

You will stay with the Deputy Head of the School Moses Gituma. This will allow you to get really involved in the community by living with the locals.

The Texas Bar is a great place to listen to their rambling stories, alternative music, whilst enjoying a Pombe (beer) and hearing Moses' never ending but extremely entertaining chat.

Taste traditional Kenyan food cooked by Moses' wife Dorothy.

Weekend Activities:

During the weekend, Moses will guide you round the local towns - the markets are a great place to enhance your vintage clothing wardrobe!

Visit Douglas’ (one of the school's teachers) tea plantation on the slopes of Mount Kenya.

Take advantage of the abundant wildlife by going to the adjacent Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, famous for its Black Rhino and Grevy's Zebra.

Costs:

£10 per day (all inclusive board and lodging)

Travel opportunities in East Africa

Climbing Mount Kenya is a great experience and can easily be combined with a stay at Mutunyi School, as it is less than an hours drive away.

The Kenyan Coast is simply magical with miles of white sandy beaches, fantastic diving, fishing, kitesurfing, windsurfing and floating night clubs!

In Uganda, you can go White Water Rafting, Bungee Jumping and see the magnificent endangered silver backed gorillas.

Visit exotic Zanzibar in adjacent Tanzania.
